Now He’s SIR Captain Picard

(Patrick Stewart as a Picard-like MacBeth, 2007)

Patrick Stewart has been honored with a knighthood in the New Years Honors list of Queen Elizabeth II. Please say hello to SIR Patrick Stewart.

And OK, cheap shot on the Captain Picard headline.  Sir Patrick has done a lot more with his career than Star Trek, even if it was his 7-year run as Captain Picard which put him on the map here in America and put his bank account into orbit at warp 2 and rising.  In the UK he’s a classical champ.  And always classy!  “This is an honour that embraces those actors, directors and creative teams who have in these recent years helped fill my life with inspiration, companionship and sheer fun,” Sir Patrick said in a statement.

But now we’re going to have trouble confusing him with Sir Ben Kingsley all over again.

Also, don’t miss this tidbit from the BBC’s report:

Among the other arts figures to be recognised in the New Year Honours list include author Dick King-Smith, who wrote The Sheep-Pig, the basis of hit film Babe.  He has been appointed an OBE.

He deserves it!
