Facts about Sasha Obama
Sasha Obama Biography
Sasha Obama is the younger daughter of former U.S. president Barack Obama. Her formal name is Natasha, but she is most often called by her nickname, Sasha.
Sasha Obama was born in 2001 to Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, who were married in 1992. Sasha Obama has one older sister, Malia Obama, who was born in 1998. Both girls attended the private University of Chicago Laboratory Schools in Chicago until January of 2009, when they began attending Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. after their father became president on January 20, 2009.
The family’s life in Washington continued after Barack Obama was reelected for a second four-year term as president in 2012. Sasha Obama was 15 years old when that second term ended on January 20, 2017. The Obama family took a house in Washington, DC, reportedly so that Sasha could finish her high school years there. Sasha Obama graduated from high school and then began college, reportedly at the University of Michigan, in the fall of 2019.
Sasha Obama’s date of birth has been variously reported as June 7th, 8th, and 10th. We believe June 10th is correct, based on a June 10, 2008 blog post by Washington Post reporter Howard Kurtz, in which he quotes Barack Obama as telling a hospital patient’s mother that “today is the 7th birthday of his daughter Sasha”… Sasha’s sister Malia entered Harvard University in 2017; she took a gap year after graduating from high school… Sasha Obama worked briefly at a summer job at Nancy’s, a seafood restaurant in Martha’s Vineyard, during the Obama family’s summer vacation there in 2016. The Boston Herald reported that her jobs included “working a cash register, busing tables and prepping the restaurant before it opens for lunch.”
